Usually I give some smart@$$ answer to this in person, but, truthfully, this is a complex question and has no easy answer.  I like the idea that Linux is free, and will remain free in the future (unless SCO and Microsoft get their way).  It is such an empowering idea -  people don't have to pay outrageous prices for quality software.  This is probably the most compelling argument for it.

Usually, when techy types talk about why they like LInux, the urge to compare it to other operating systems is irresistable.  While this can be a lot of fun, I'll refrain from it here as it tends to dwell on the negative instead of accentuating what's good about Linux.

I like the idea that a Linux administrator has control over how users of his or her systems can access that system's resources.  I also like that users of my Linux systems can control who sees and can access their files.  A little privacy is a good thing.

I like that Linux can be used to build cheap supercomputers even though I haven't yet had the opportunity to  build one myself.  Maybe, one day, I'll try a notion I have to build a Beowulf Cluster out of old computers (something I jokingly refer to as the "Po-Wulf Project"...) just for the fun of it.

I like having a system that doesn't crash often and that recovers well when it does.  A little stability is also a good thing.

There are some things I would change about Linux if I could - and I'm learning.  There are already some things I have changed about my current system.  The notes for this will be linked in future updates to this page, as some of you probably will want to do some of the same things I have.
