Hattiesburg, Mississippi is home to the University of Southern Mississippi (my alma mater - I'm an old undergrad, yeah...)  USM is, in turn, the home of a very active and growing Linux Users' Group.  Their meetings are held on a semi-regular basis on the second Thursday of each month, with special events like InstallFests at various times through the year.

The USM LUG has two excellent resources on the Internet:  UsmLUG@usm-lug.org, the LUG's mailing list and their website.  To subscribe to or learn more abou the list, click on the link to:

To visit their website, simply click the link to it above.

USM LUG accepts members from the Greater Hattiesburg area, regardless of whether or not they attend USM.  Students at USM are the only voting members, though.  Regardless of that, they always seem to have something worthwhile going on, and are excellent ambassadors for Linux to the general community.

I am an associate (non-voting) member of USM LUG and recommend membership to anyone in the area interested in learning or helping to promote use of Linux.  While I was working offshore, I couldn't attend many meetings, but now that I'm working closer to home, that should change - hopefully I'll see you at a meeting sometime soon.
