- To access the latest addresses, editors' names, and guidelines for
publishers
- To learn about changes in the publishing houses, such as new lines,
retiring editors, etc.
- To research agents, editors, publishing companies, magazines, etc.
- To join writers' support groups
- To ask questions or enter into discussions with other writers
- To be able to have your work critiqued online
- To find "how to" articles for writers
- To access websites about the genre in which you write
- To track down an "expert" in virtually any field
- To research a setting for your latest manuscript
- To obtain a translation into a foreign language
- To research plants for your latest manuscript
- To research the lingo or topic of your latest manuscript
- To interview someone for a nonfiction article
- To learn which books are on the best sellers' list for any genre
- To learn about the books of your favorite authors
- To purchase books, either resource materials or fiction
- To meet someone from the country in which your book will be set
- To learn the answers to your trickiest grammar questions
- To take online grammar or typing quizzes
- To learn about different markets, such as magazines that are looking for
articles on particular subjects
- To write technology- or Internet-related articles
- To publish your fiction stories, nonfiction articles, poetry, etc., online
- To publicize your books or articles. You can set up your own website, or
you can participate in a website for writers, to where readers can learn more
about you and your work.
- To gain confidence in your work
