April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, so let's search for sites on child abuse and safety. 

Honestly, I could easily list just one site this month and have covered the entire topic extensively. Mike Schelling's Child Health and Safety Information contains site after site on child abuse and protection, adoption and foster care, safety, domestic violence, and even health and pediatrics. He does a marvelous job with his site, and it's definitely a "must see." http://www.radix.net/~mschelling/children.html

Promoting Prevention is an excellent site that features the President's Proclamation for Child Abuse Prevention Month. The site contains facts on child abuse, ways to gain community involvement, and ways to prevent the abuse. http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/news/april/capmonth.htm

Mayo Clinic's Health Oasis features an article called, "Child Abuse, A serious problem that's hard to define." The article contains statistics and prevention information. http://www.mayo.ivi.com/ivi/mayo/9605/htm/child_ab.htm

National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect is a service of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is a resource for professionals seeking information on the prevention, identification, and treatment of child abuse and neglect. http://www.calib.com/nccanch/

Kids in Trouble Help page is a kids' guide to child abuse, depression, suicide, and runaway problems. http://www.geocities.com/EnchantedForest/2910/

National SAFE KIDS Campaign is dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury--the number one killer of children ages 14 and under.http://www.safekids.org/

Safe Child Home Page teaches prevention of abuse by people known to the child or strangers, safety measures for latchkey children, and even how to report accurately child abuse and missing children cases. http://safechild.org/

April 14-19 was National Victims' Rights Week. The site for Mothers Against Drunk Driving discusses constitutional amendments for victims' rights, MADD itself, and statistics.http://www.madd.org/

Prevent Child Sexual Abuse is a police education series that features how to talk to your child about abuse and what behavior indicators and changes to watch for. http://www.ci.san-carlos.ca.us/police/childsab.html

In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day (May 4), Armed Forces Day (May 17), and Memorial Day (May 26), we'll look at World War II and related sites next week. See you then.
