OBITUARYI. J. Lee Houston, Texas I.J. Lee, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather's greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He was born March 9, 1935 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but spent most of his life in the Humble area where he has many life-long friends. He was proud of his heritage as the Lee Family was among the founding fathers of the area. He enjoyed many activities- playing football and baseball in Humble schools and at Blinn College. His love of music and sports was shared by his entire family and many of our greatest times were attending these events together. His favorite activity was electronics- maybe his obsession was electronics. He had almost every electronic gadget available. He spent many long hours researching and learning everything he could about his electronic gadgets. He retired from Shell Oil Company, after 31 successful years. He was very proud of the fact that he spent the next 31 years enjoying retirement. After enjoying many years in the Humble area, he moved to the Huntsville area where he enjoyed country living and forming many great friendships. He is survived by Billie, his wife of 61 years, their three children, Jim Lee and wife Teresa and their family; Jan Wild and husband Bill and their family; Jerry Lee and daughter Kamryn; Sister Mary Lois Collins and her family; Brother-in-law Charles Hamel and wife Joan. Granddaughters Jaimie and Lindsey Christy; Lacy and Bailey Lee; Kamryn Lee; Ashley Doyle; Emily Doyle Hicks. Great- granddaughters Rory Violet Mabrey, Maci Hicks, Remi Ornelas. Grandsons Dylan Lee, Jory and Stephen Doyle. Great-grandsons Hunter Gehring, Nathaniel Lewis and Raymond Doyle; many relatives and friends. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humble Museum, 219 E. Main St. Humble, TX 77338. A Special NoteI. J. Lee, a participant in the Lee DNA project, died July 17, 2017. I. J. joined other descendants of David Lee who were tested. I. J.'s lineage follows. I. J. was descended from David Lee, born early 1700's, lived in Chowan County, North Carolina, Bath County, North Carolina, and New Hanover County, North Carolina; Bryant Lee, son of David, born after 1720 North Carolina; Solomon Lee, Sr., son of Bryan, born around 1758 in North Carolina; Samuel Lee, son of Solomon, Sr.,born 1789 in North Carolina, died in Lawrence County, Mississippi; Wilson Lee, son of Samuel, born in 1816 in South Carolina, died in Harris County, Texas in 1864; Asa Harmon Lee, son of Wilson, born in Mississippi in 1856, died in 1940 Harris County, Texas; Irving James Lee, son of Asa, born 1897 Harris County, Texas; I. J. Lee, son of Irving James, born 1935. Prior to being tested, I. J.'s cousin Larry Lee had documented their Lee lineage. After their grandfather Asa left Mississippi for Texas, Mississippi relatives knew of the relationship between Asa and his Mississippi cousins, one of whom was Dicy Lee Bush. Larry came into possession of letters written from Dicy to her cousin Asa (Larry's grandfather), letters that were a treasure trove of family lore. A relationship was thus cemented, and Larry and other grandchildren of Asa Lee came to know their Mississippi cousins and to find their place in the history of the family. I. J. treasured that history of his family. Bill and Marilyn Sirmon |
