FAMILY HISTORIES

Sirmon Family

Home Page

This site has as its general purpose the sharing of genealogical research on the family of Edward Sermoner and Anne ffrowan who were married in Maryland in 1662. While many of their descendants remained in the Eastern Shore area of Maryland, many more moved north, west, and south. Specifically we hope that this site will assist in finding actual documentation rather than the present circumstantial evidence of the movement of their descendants from Maryland to North Carolina in the middle 1700's. The descendants of many of the families living in North Carolina in the middle 1700's have been documented as they moved on to South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and to many other states as time passed.

Sirmon Documents

In the Documents section of the site guide, you may choose to view the research documents of the Sirmon family. Many of the documents on this site are presented using the PDF format. There is a special note on PDF documents presented below. If you are unfamiliar with PDF documents, it is suggested that you read the special note before trying to access the documents. The Site Guide in the window on the left is designed to allow you direct access to the particular type of documents broken down by the areas indicated.

It will be helpful for anyone viewing the documents on this site to have spent some time researching the early generations of the Edward Sermoner family. If that should not be the case, one should spend time reading the documents presented on the site to develop an understanding of the movement of the family. We will emphasize here that many relationships posted are not supported by documentation but are our best guess from information currently available. Therefore, please do not take any information from this site and post it to other sites without our knowledge. Posting information as fact when such is not the case is a hindrance to serious and honest research.

S*rm*n DNA Project

The purpose of the S*rm*n Family DNA Project is to use the science of DNA to trace the different family lines back to their origin. At the present time, the test results of the participants have led us to identify two independent S*rm*n families in the southwest of England. One is in the Gloucestershire and Worcestershire area and is refered to as the Severn Valley family. The other is found in the Oxfordshire area and is refered to as the Thames Valley family. A third group consists of participants who have not been connected to these two family groups. Different lines of these families are found in Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Europe, South Africa, and the United States. As most family researchers know, the modern day spelling may appear with a variety of different vowels. The spellings include: Serman, Sermon, Sirman, Sirmon, Surman, or Surmon. Any of these variations may end in an "s." You may substitute your family "vowel" where the "*" appears.

If you are interested in the project, you may use the link in the window at the left to go to the S*rm*n Family DNA Project. There you will find general information about the DNA project along with participant test results and information from both the UK and the USA relating to the S*rm*n families.
