LEE FAMILY GENEALOGY

David Lee Family DNA Project

How It Began

How It Began, June 2008

In June 2008, at the Wilson Jasper Lee (the son of Needham W. Lee and grandson of Samuel Lee) Reunion in Whitesand, Mississippi, several descendants of Asa Harmon Lee (son of Wilson Lee) from Texas attended. The father of Asa Harmon Lee, Wilson Lee, was the brother of Needham W. Lee and therefore, Asa was a first cousin to Wilson Jasper. During this time there was discussion concerning the use of Y-DNA testing to help verify the lineage in family genealogy. It was decided that a David Lee Family DNA Project would be formed with the hope of determining whether David Lee was related to other Lees in Virginia or whether David Lee was, in fact, the immigrant for our Lee line.

July - September, 2008

During this period, two descendants ordered test kits through our Sirmon DNA Project at FTDNA. One was a descendant of Needham W. Lee (1814) and the other a descendant of Needham's brother Wilson Lee (1816). Both of these were sons of Solomon Lee, Sr. (1758).

October - December, 2008

During this period, two additional descendants ordered test kits through our Sirmon DNA Project at FTDNA. One was a descendant of James Lee (1757) who was a son of Bryan Lee and a brother to Solomon Lee, Sr (1758). The other new participant was a descendant of Wilson Lee.

The test results for all four particpants were received during this period and have been posted. The test results indicate a close family match of these four participants.

On 4 December, the results for the four Lee participants tested through the Sirmon DNA Project at FTDNA were moved to the Lee DNA Project at FTDNA. We will continue to post on our web site the results for tested participants from the Lee DNA Project at FTDNA who match our David Lee line.

We invite you to become a participant and find where you fit in the S*rm*n or Lee families. If you would like more information about becoming a participant, you may contact the appropriate Project Administrator using the window at the left.
