Hasui Kawase - Sakurada Gate in the rain. Kawase Hasui: "Known for his exquisite landscape prints, Kawase Hasui (1883 – 1957) was one of the most prolific and talented shin hanga artists of the early 20th century." (Also see Wikipedia - Kawase Hasui. As with most Japanese prints there is a delicacy to them that defies explanation. Yet, they also possess a timeless quality that lingers. During the night, the wind swirled and tumbled, ripping down old limbs, pine cones, twigs. Even tearing at early pine cone blossoms of the loblolly pines. It is very rare that I see these on the ground, so the wind was indeed fierce. I spent about 45 minutes this morning picking up debris in the front, but finally had to give up; even with watch cap, dust mask and gloves, there was no way to avoid the rough-edged breath of the north wind gods on my face. The rest of the day was mundane. I moved a few more items out of the living room. Wrote a supply list for Friday (the 1st of the month) shopping. Wrote checks for immediately due bills. Looked on the web for more info on secured credit cards. I fear that by accidently going over the limit with Orchard, I've upped the annual percentage rate to an obscene amount. I may need to pay it off and move on to another. I also baked a pumpkin pie. I'd been buying ready-to-eat chocolate pies at WalMart, but one day there were none, so I picked up two pumpkin pies, only to realize they needed baking. In the process of baking, which I have not done in years, I set off the smoke detector about five times. I finally had to take the batteries out to keep it quiet. But they were half the price of the chocolate pies. And within the last few weeks, they come with a $1 coupon inside the box. Which reduces the price to $1.42, which is a terrific bargain. The time before last when I bought them, I got home and could not find them, so back to the store I went. And there they were in the clerks return cart. A couple of days, I would have done exactly the same thing had not the nice people behind me said, "Are these your's?" What was I thinking. s (In Wednesday - 2008-0130-2215 / Out - 2008-0130-2325) This entry was written in a single setting.) Pax! Erin go braugh! Je accuse...
