Odd that I've never used this image before. I love those multiple lines of perspective. And there's something about the placement of the man in the background, the sign on the wall and the person with the umbrella that I find very appealing. And I have a totally inexplicable fondness for steps in the rain. I was surprised to discover that the official name of the photo is "Winter Rain in Beyoglu, Istanbul." The source is " beyond borders photography", the personal website of rob leutheuser, who has been taking photos for 35 years. Usually about once a week, I hibernate, and today was one of those days. I felt indifferent to everything and very tired. And I actually went to sleep very quickly, and when I woke it would be two or three hours later. Like that section of time has just vanished, and other than the displays of the clock, I would not have known they existed. I did add about 20 more images to the Pensive Guys section for Christian Bale. Last week, I was fumbling through YouTube looking for various artists, one of whom was Marlene Dietrich. Several of the favorites, I'd marked were no long available. But then I came across her rendition of a song I'd never hear of - "White Grass." It is the story of a soldier returning home from the war, and the lyrics are chilling. that once was my home.
Bleached bones, nothing more,
A cradle I made, no more
The war is over,
Once it was finished, I felt stunned. It's not just the words, but also her ironic interpretation, that are so impactful. I transcribed the lyrics which can be found at "White Grass" (Marlene Dietrich). The YouTube link can be found at "Marlene Dietrich - White Grass" (In Monday - 2008-0128-2315 / Out - 2008-0129-0015) This entry was written in a single setting.)Pax! Erin go braugh! Je accuse...
