Rain? Nude with cat

Isn't the initial photo supposed to have something to do with rain? Well sorta. Yes. No. Maybe. I'm sure it was raining somewhere in the world when the photo was taken.

There are only so many ways you can take a photo of anything. And after 160 years or so, I'm sure all of them have been tried. Nudes are no more than a subset, so the same reasoning applies.

But I love this particular nude. It's the naturalness of the pose. As though he sees something in the garden that has caught his attention. And I don't see anything that would date the photo.

His body has the leanness that you see in Greek sculptures of Hermes, god of speed. Look at the calves of the model and this statue of Hermes of Lysippos circa 350 BCE).

And the perfect touch is the cat, obviously a well-known companion.

Lunch - Golden Corral, May 14 "Variety" - Ealing Studios, a random act of kindness

I was early, so I was able to grab by favorite seat in the corner. I read the miscellaneous articles at the beginning.

Englishman Barbaby Thompson is hoping to re-store Ealing Studios to its former glory. In the 40s and 50s, it produced some of the most wickedly funny comedies imaginable. Dry, subtle and superb.

In college, I can still recall going to see "Kinds Hearts and Coronets" in the film departments diminutive auditorium - six rows of seats as I recall. During intermission, I went to the bath, and when I returned, the film had already started. I tried to sneak up the steps, but on the bottom step was a set of wooden tablets, I think, I don't think I ever knew what they were for. Well, of course, I managed to dislodge the entire pile which created a clatter that was terrifying. I was absolutely mortified. Finally a bright scene came on, and I was able to navigate my way back to the top row. It was also my introduction to the concept of a "film series." The films I saw during that period were one of the pivotal points of my life.

So, Hear! Hear!, Mr. Thompson.

I had just gotten to an article on the Cannes Film Festival in "Variety," when I decided it was time to mosey along. As I stood up to leave, I placed the tip on the table and reached of my iced tea and knocked it over. The Mexican construction worker , who was eating alone to my left, reached across and gave me a batch of napkins, which I appreciated. A random act of kindness that has such meaning.

Lowe's

The irresistible siren song of Lowe's drew me to her bosom again. I had three junipers, but I felt the need of a fourth. I didn't one get previously, because it was the end of the month, and I was not certain how much moola was in the bank. But once the first rolls around. I know the retirement check was in.

In Thursday's battle with the bedstead, I had removed the old sliders on the posts, so I needed new ones. The old ones were too large for the post and the top sticky side was constantly coated with dirt, dust and cat hair. I also needed liquid drain cleaner since the water in the bath basin empties all too slowly.

In the very warm outdoor plant area, I picked up a juniper and decided on a ligustrum for the hedge row. Is there a place where you can buy plants cheaply? They are expensive enough at Lowe's. I fear to even approach an actual nursery. There's one not far from Lowe's, and the prices are double those at Lowe's.

WalMart

As spring follows winter, WalMart follows Lowe's.

Obviously, paper towels were on the list. Along with a glass vase for the river rocks and pebbles. Most vases are convex, larger in the middle; but this one is concave, smaller in the middle. I also wanted some large-sized rocks, but they did not have them, so I had to settle for the middle size.

Oh, and two standard-sized pillows. I'd thought that the queen-sized-pillows would work in the standard-sized shams. In a word, "no!"

I also scanned very carefully the selection of blinds for this is where I bought the two vinyl ones I have now. But there was nothing in any style in the sizes I need.

Home - rest of afternoon, nap, journal, "Painkiller Jane", TV watching in general

The rest of the afternoon is a fuzzle, I think I watered the outside plants, and lawn. I noticed a headache developing at lunch, at which point I took two Levacet. The combination of trying to figure out what I needed and the heat did not help. So I most likely downed a G.E. Alprazolam (xanax) and took a nap. All I can say for certain is that I was on the web at 2000. Which means I was working on Thursday's journal.

I stopped at 2100 to watch "Painkiller Jane," which is now the only show I go out of my way to view. "CSI" is finished for the season, as is "Heroes." "NCIS" may still hold hope, but this week was a repeat. "Smallville" finished the same night at "CSI."

(But on Monday, the 11th,"Kyle XY" is back for a second season. I'm very curious to see where they will go. Plus I get to ogle Matt Dallas who is so adorable.)
