Thursday 20070524-2230 - Rain Images; Lunch and June "Wired"; How I'm feeling; Hanging 50s Hollywood photos
Since I have a fairly strong allegiance to rain verse and photos, I've collected around 50, possibly less, because I've noticed some are duplicates. And I've been using them as desktop centered on a black background. Very dramatic! So I thought I'd share some I've used. Raindrops themselves are difficult to photograph. Movie rain consists of water and some kind of emulsifier that make them about five-times real size. So you'll find dozens of rain-slickened street, reflections of rain under street lights at night, umbrellas, people dripping with rain, raindrops on a transparent surface like glass, or splashing water. As a kid, I loved comic books that panels with rain images in them. But, the rain was not represented by drop. but by vertical and slanted grey lines. A technique, no doubt, picked up from Oriental block prints in use for hundred of years. In fact, a couple of those are shown at the left. Some how the block prints resonate with my psyche far more than any other type of images. Somewhere buried deep in my emotional cabling there is a fascination with rain that is almost fetish-like. It provides me with something akin to magical wards that keep evil at bay. I tried to go to lunch early to avoid the convocation of the multiple groups. This is the end of the academic year, so every graduation, commencement, awards' ceremony, diploma distribution is timed to end just before lunch. So the hungry masses can head for the nearest buffet. "How do you like children, Mr. Fields?" "Parbroiled, parbroiled!" (A really snarky comment from another source that I don't remember. "Do you like children" "Yes, but I've never been able to eat a whole one.") When I left, the lines of customers were out both doors. The most I've ever seen. (In - Thursday - 20070524 - 1110: $7.51 - Cash) Slowly better. The headaches are not as bad. Maybe because, I figured out then when the directions on the Levacet bottle say take every six hours, it means exactly that. Not just when you 'think' you need to. The headaches and muscle aches cropped up several times include once at around 2030. I tried to go to bed but could not sleep, so I decided to work on rain images, Rufus Wainwright and today's journal. I did feel up to finally hanging the photos of 50s Hollywood that I'd bought on contours provocations journal - 2007-0501 - tue - 2150. I'd debated about using the two-side tape or velcro. The tape was about half the width of the velcro, so I figured it would be a little easier to deal with. I took the photos into the bedroom and spread them out on the bed and moved them around until I came up with something I sorta liked. My original thought was to have a more diverse spread, but that's difficult when four are one size; two, another; and the other two, another size. So it's more concentrated than I'd thought. So I came up with a large Dean at the top right; under Dean is a large Monroe. In the middle column is a smaller horizontal shot of a premier at Grauman's Chinese Theatre; below are two smaller verticals photos of Dean; at the bottom is a smaller shot of downtown Hollywood at night showing The Knickerbocker Hotel, and the Broadway Hollywood Hotel. See A Trip to KACE/KRTO Hollywood and the Broadway Building. On the far left at the top is another Monroe; under that is daytime shot of the The Capitol Records Tower.. All in all, I really like the look and feel.
