Sunday 070506 - Up; Lunch; To the theater; Trailers; Spider-Man 3; Lowe's; Home - Interstate intersection; Home - Windchimes; Home - Laundry; Raking; Saturday journal; Plan59 - Christmas photo - 1954
My little WordPad says I was up at 0620, that I did kitty chores and turned on the laptop at 0642. Then it looks like I worked on the continuation of the journal for Friday, and used the web several times to check some facts. And turned off the computer around 0900 I then spent some time with additional chores, like making the bed, putting on a load of laundry, shower and shave, dress. At 1030, I turned on the laptop again, went on line and checked the various start times for "Spider-Man 3." By the way, that's the way it's listed in the movie title, with a hyphen. Somehow, I'd missed that until now. But then I look back at IMDB, and they all have a hyphen, and my copy of 2 has a hyphen. Between Tinseltown and Malaco, there were plenty of options. A screening starting every half-hour from noon until around 1500. I picked up my friend at 1100, and we were at Macaroni's by 1115. He had kindly offered to pay in exchange for taking him to pick up his car Friday. A generous gesture I appreciate. I had my standard grilled salmon with asparagus, but this time they had added cubed tomatoes on top of the salmon and large stem of broccoli. Between the asparagus and the broccoli, the first thought that hit me was, "Gosh, there's a lot of dark green on this plate." (Out - Sunday - 20070506 - circa 1230) From the restaurant to the cinema is further than you remember, so it always takes more time than I think it will. Malaco sits near the giant WalMart and is off the Interstate. But I go the "back way" from the restaurant which I think is little quicker. I think we must have arrived a few minutes after 1 pm. (In - Sunday - 20070506 - circa 1300: $6.00 - Cash) The house lights were down, and the trailers had started. Two animated features stick in my mind: "Shrek the Third" and "Surfs Up". IMDB says " "Surfs Up" - A behind-the-scenes look at the annual Penguin World Surfing Championship, and its newest participant, up-and-comer Cody Maverick." Animated penguins? Wasn't there just something called "Happy Feet" - "Into the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song, a penguin is born who cannot sing. But he can tap dance something fierce!" Odd that both animated trailers featured fart jokes. I also noted the trailer for "The Bourne Ultimatum" looks promising. A couple of years ago, I throughly enjoyed "The Bourne Supremacy". It was far better than I'd anticipated from reading the reviews. Toby Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and James Franco are a pleasure to watch. Topher Grace as the new kid did a great job with not a lot to work with. J.K. Simmons as editor of "The Daily Bugle" is a great comic diversion. (Not to sound too shallow, but I got a kick out of the blond/coppery highlights in Topher's hair.) Rosemary Harris is one of the "grande dames" of the entertainment world. IMDB indicates she first played on television's "Studio One: in 1952. Her presence is always one that brings calm to the maelstrom. To be honest, I could have done without the Sandman. With three or four villains, there was a lot going on. And I actually loved the Venom side of Peter. I kept thinking of Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever". The jazz club scene was delicious. Over-the-top but delectable. One of the paradoxes of being a super hero is that you have to be a super hero. It's going to be a pain on relationships. And you're going to be driven semi-insane by the cases when you fail. A really tricky job for any writer to come up with fresh material. Alas, I was sad to see Franco killed. And also the possible death of Grace was a loss. (Possible death, because some of the IMDB comments indicate that venom may have escape at the last nanosecond. The ending was appropriately bittersweet. Peter and MJ are together again, both wiser but much sadder. I noticed that "Movie & TV News @ IMDb.com - Studio Briefing - 7 May 2007" states "Spider-Man 3 became an overnight box-office marvel over the weekend as it snared an estimated $373 million in its web internationally, $148 million of that in North America. It was the biggest three-day haul in history. The film accounted for more than 80 percent of all ticket sales..." The page goes on to indicate that "The success of Spider-Man 3 brought promises of additional episodes of Spidey and his enemies. "There'll be a fourth and a fifth and sixth and a seventh," Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal told Daily Variety. "As many stories as Peter Parker has to tell, we'll do sequels." One downside to the experience was that I drank my normal excessive quantity of iced tea at lunch, so I kept having to go to the bathroom. Bummer! (Out - Sunday - 20070506 - 1540) We made a quick stop by Lowe's, so I could buy the hooks I needed to hang the windchimes. And we glanced at rugs. I've thought of getting a couple of indoor/outdoor rugs that could be cleaned with detergent and a scrub brush. I tried that once with one of the rugs I had, and it destroyed the rug. I'm down to a single runner, and the cats will soon demolish it. (Out - Sunday - 20070506 - 1554: $1.78 + $40 cash back = $41.78 - Bank Debit Card) I left Lowe's and headed for the Interstate intersection which has one of the strangest traffic flow patterns in existence. As long as you realize that the red light in your lane has nothing to do with the green light in the next lane. I managed to run the red light, the quickly scooted over to the green-light lane. I think that configuration was to allow cars off the Interstate to merge into eastbound traffic. Thankfully, there was no one exiting when I passed through the red light. The first thing I did once I was home was to hang them under the eaves by one of the front windows. I forgot that the stain glass window blocks my view of them. I finished up with the laundry, clothes I think. Although I was was able to get away with not raking Saturday, no such luck today. Two containers of leaves, limbs and straw. The journal for Saturday was done in bits and pieces at about six different times. I completed it last night. Taking an hour off at 0021 to watch "Painkiller Jane." It reminds me of across between "La Femme Nikita" and "Heroes".
I came across this Christmas photo at Plan59 - Christmas - Grandmother and Barbara, Miami Shores, 1954. I sent this off to someone and wrote , " Is this not a fun-looking couple. My god, the look like characters out David Lynch's "Blue Velvet." If they offered me a cup of tea, I'd want to be sure my food-taster was near-by." He replied, "I think both lampshades have poinsettia on them, by the way."
None (Out - Monday - 20070507 - 2330)
