First things first - the 1959 Chrysler Crown Imperial

I have set up a special page with a number of images that give some photographic idea of the car. See 20070502-2300: 1959 Chrysler Crown Imperial.

In the process of looking for images, I came across a wonderful sight filled with images from the 50s. See Plan59 :: 1950s Art :: The Retro Graphics Archive. Utterly fascinating site. Splendid simple design.

Early morning

I got up around 7 fed the kitties, did the standard cat maintenance, and then surfed around for a couple of hours. Although the history files shows you where you've been, it doesn't say when. There may be an add on that does this - another something to explore.

I went back to bed and woke up around 1130.

Repairing desk

With glue and some appropriate bangs, I finished repairing the desk. I'll just have to remember to be very careful with it.

Laundry

I seem to have an awful lot of laundry. There was a tub of towels. A tub of clothes from socks to jeans. And a tub of a bed spread and a comforter.

Lunch - "Variety" - "Equus"

Lunch was disappointing. The buffet has a set selection, no doubt based on profit margin, and if they deviate from it, then it's to exclude certain items. Today there was no grilled chicken. The fried chicken looked a tad dated. And the broiled chicken is to greasy for my tastes, so I wound up with a slice of tilapia over rice. Not my favorite dish for the fish was far too dry.

I finished the Feb 26 - Mar 4, 2007, issue of "Variety." At the time, "Equus" had not opened, so there was an article titled "Blinded by the light - Will Radcliffe casting overshadow "Equus"?"

From there I moved on to the March 5 - 11 issue of "Variety." By this point, "Equus" had opened. Some quotes from the review:

"The big question, however, was can Radcliffe cut it as as an actor off screen? The answer is 'almost, but not quite.' "

"What he lacks is a grounded voice to give the role color and depth. The more emotional his character becomes, the more strained and inexpressive the sound."

"The role of Dysart, too, is almost destroyed by the casting . Griffiths' throwaway ease wittily underlines Dysart's self-disgust. But Dysart never seems brought down or eaten away by this life."

"The scale of Griffiths' physical presence weighs against a homoerotic interpretation between the older man and the boy. Griffiths is avuncular, an impression furthered by association with his role as Uncle Vernon to Radcliffe's Harry Potter."

Petrol

As soon as I finished lunch, I turned the corner for petrol. 9.56 gallons at $2.769 per gallon.

(Out - Wednesday - 20070502 - 1415: $26.48 - Orchard)

WalMart

I drove to the giant WalMart in Ridgeland to see if they had any more the Hollywood art. I carefully went and down the aisles. Then back around. Zilch. I guess they could have been back in the frozen food section, but I doubt it.

I bought three bottles of cat odor eliminator spray.

And I spoke to one of the greeters who has the most generous-of-spirit attitudes of anyone I've ever met. I always compliment him on his enthusiastic positive outlook, it truly is inspirational.

Laundry Again

When I got home, there was a load of towels in the dryer that needed to come in. A load of clothes in the washer that needed to go into the dryer. And the bed spread and comforter that needed to go into the washer.

The towels came in and were folded and stored away.

Raking

I've not raked in two or three days, and I know it is a task that demands constant attention. Today I ended up with five thickly stuffed containers. More than I'd appreciated.

Coiling the electrical cord

The apparatus I bought Monday, intended for keeping hoses untangled, proved ideal for the 200 feet of electrical cord I have to deal with. Now I'll have to see what happens when I uncoil it.

Laundry Again, Again

By now the clothes were finished, so I hauled them in. And put all the shirts on hangers: I may be the only person in the world who hangs tee shirts and sweat shirts. Folded the jeans and sweat pants. And sorted the socks. And then I went back out to place the other items into the dryer.

Nap

By now I needed a therapeutic nap. So I dozed off for about two hours and woke up at 8. .

Imperial Page

I glanced at the news and went in search of images for the Imperial page. As usual, easier said than done. Must have taken taken several hours. The photos were hard to find. And many were taken from such odd angles that it was hard to see the car. And then I sniffed around the Plan 59 site
