Tuesday 20070501 - 2150 - Early morning; Lunch - "Variety" - "Robin Hood"; Lunch - "Variety" - Hallam Foe" - "Equus"; WalMart and Framed Photos of Hollywood in the 50s; 1959 Chrysler Crown Imperial; Broken Desk; "NCIS" and "Veronica Mars"
I explained part of what happened this morning in the last entry. The kitties had gotten me up, and I'd done some of the kitty maintenance, and taken my morning meds, so I thought it would only take a few minutes to create the page. Which it would, if you don't doze off in the middle of it. I must have been overly tired from yesterday's efforts that I went back to bed around 0845 and woke up somewhere near noon.
The buffet seemed crowded, and the clerk mentioned, they had had three bus loads of people show up. I was forced over into the smoking section, but fortunately, no one was smoking. As I glanced at the cover of "Variety," I noticed the front cover had a full-size devoted to the BBC's new version of "Robin Hood". Jonas Armstrong, who plays Robin, stands in the center, wearing a green hooded robe, with long floppy hair, a vandyke with a quiver of arrows over his right shoulder with a facial expression between a sneer and a sexual leer, certainly looked "interesting." Part of his image is at the top of the BBC web page. I then noticed the logo. And thought about how how splendidly clever it was. I always admire such cleverness, because it is a skill I lack. The use of an arrow to form an "I" and then part of an "H" is so ingenious.
I must admit that even as an avid Jamie Bell fan, I've never heard of this pic. I thought I'd seen something about Jamie replacing Daniel Radcliffe in "Equus," so I did a Google and discovered that that is indeed true. From a very quick glance at the selection, this one seems to offer the most info. "Billy Elliot boy lined up for 'full monty". Orlando Bloom turned it down? Curious! (In - Tuesday - 20070501 - 1258: $7.51 - Cash) I headed for WalMart with my shopping list of exciting items like bread, paper towels, cat litter and dry cat food. As I was wheeling my way toward the pets' department, I saw a display of framed photos of the 50s. I was amazed, because they looked sensational. James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and several scenes of Hollywood. They also had shots of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Venice, Paris, Greece. But it was Hollywood I wanted. I bought six. They come in two sizes: 15-inches by 20-inches and half-sizes - 15-inches by 10 inches. I wound up with four of large and four of the small. I bought two large Marilyns', one large Dean and a large one of the Capitol Records Tower. Also I picked up two small Deans', a night shot of Grauman's Chinese and a night shot of the Capitol Records Tower and surrounding buildings. Never did I think I buy art from WalMart, but I did. (Out - Tuesday - 20070501 - 1452: $109.12 + $40 cash back = $149.12 - Bank Debit Card) As I was leaving the parking lot, I spotted a white 1959 Chrysler Crown Imperial. I've tried to find a match under an image search, but no luck, so I'll need to come back to it. I know this one was a hardtop, and I think it was a four-door model. The distinctive feature were the tail lights that resembled rockets surrounded by a ring of silver metal. The car must have weighed tons and had enough steel and chrome in to build a navy destroyer. If you hit one in an accident, I'm sure your car would be demolished, with it suffering only a scratch on the right fender. My old, fragile desk had been coming unglued, literally, of late. So when I moved it this afternoon, it came apart. And when the desk comes apart, the drawer turns over and paper clips, stamps, staples, rubber bands and other items go everywhere. I spent an hour trying to repair it, and I'm still not finished. "NCIS" was on at 7; nothing overly exciting. It was great to have "Veronica" back at 8. I still love Logan. He has some of the best quip on TV. And I'm always amazed at how much the character reminds me of Brian Kinney of "Queer as Folk".
