contours provocations

My next stop was the ubiquitous WalMart. It's always either sweet tea, bread, cheese, paper towels, chocolate cake or cat food. (I've read recently that dark chocolate has some beneficial effects.) I'm also certain I've never been in there without buying one of those items. Two pill boxes were included in this purchase.) I pushed my cart to the car, and then the strangest thing happened. A car pulled in a couple of slots over. A woman got out and asked if she could take the cart back for me. I said how very kind she was. And she said it was no trouble. I told her my theory of how I believe that such tiny events can have a spiritual ripple effect. As I continued to load the car, she handed me the bags. This also took me by surprise. And again I mentioned how import small events can be. I tried to remember the quote from the St. Paul about entertaining strangers for you may be entertaining angels unaware. When I finished, she took my cart and said, "Have a nice day!" At least I had enough sense to reply, "And the same to you. The quote is from Paul's letter to the Hebrews II: "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers (Out - Wednesday - 20070418 - 1054: $30.76 - Bank Debit Card) Wednesday, I felt well enough to go out into the world. Since I'd spent two days at home with modest meals, I was ready for a more substantial meal. Golden Corral is affordable, nearby, and the staff is fairly proficient. I like to sit against the east windows where there is plenty of light for whatever I'm reading. Plus I'm not quite as surrounded by loud people and their cell phones. One day the week before, I was across from some over wrought lady who spent the entire meal arguing with someone. Actually, the ideal table is one in the corner, but I'm seldom able to grab it. (In - Wednesday 20070418 - 1214: $7.29 - Cash ) The day before, I'd called in two prescriptions to CVS. Gentex LA, a decongestant - $41.90 and Clonazepam, for panic/anxiety attacks - $13.00. One order was filled, the other not, so I had to sit and wait, which I don't like doing. (Out - Wednesday - 20070418 - 1123: $54.90 - Bank Debit Card) They called the name of the man sitting nearby to ask a question. It was an unusual name. So I said "Polish?" He replied, "No Lithuanian," I immediately tried to recall what I knew about Lithuania. I made a comment about it must be good to have a country again. According to the The CIA factbook "Independent between the two World Wars, Lithuania was annexed by the USSR in 1940 - an action never recognized by the US. On 11 March 1990, Lithuania became the first of the Soviet republics to declare its independence, but Moscow did not recognize this proclamation until September of 1991 (following the abortive coup in Moscow). The last Russian troops withdrew in 1993. Lithuania subsequently restructured its economy for integration into Western European institutions; it joined both NATO and the EU in the spring of 2004."I asked what did the USSR think they were going to do with Lativa, Estonia and Lithuania. Of course, later I realized they wanted to provide access to the Atlantic. If anything else of semi insignificance happened, I don't recall it.
