Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Yesterday was the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. "commemorating the traditional account of her appearance to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin on the hill of Tepeyac near Mexico City from December 9, 1531 through December 12, 1531."

"According to the first accounts describing the Guadalupan apparition, during a walk from his village to the city on December 9, 1531, Juan Diego saw a vision of the Virgin Mary at the Hill of Tepeyac. Speaking in Nahuatl, she told him to build an abbey on the site, but when Juan Diego spoke to the Spanish bishop, Fray Juan de Zumárraga, the prelate did not believe him, asking for a miraculous sign. The Virgin told him to gather flowers from the hill, even though it was winter, when normally nothing bloomed. He found Spanish roses, gathered them on his tilma, and presented these to the bishop. When the roses fell from it an icon of the Virgin remained imprinted on the cloth"

As a kid growing up in the Roman Catholic faith, this was always one of my favorite stories. Check Our Lady of Guadalupe. I love the quotation: "The Mexican novelist Carlos Fuentes once said that '...one may no longer consider himself a Christian, but you cannot truly be considered a Mexican unless you believe in the Virgin of Guadalupe.' "

Sinus / Headache / Migraine / Allergy

Since the weekend, I've been suffering from some combination of the above maladies. Sunday afternoon, an hour or so after returning from "Casino Royale," I had such a headache that I had to take some meds and take a long nap.

Monday I did some chores and in mid-afternoon realized it had been a mistake. Tuesday, I stayed in bed most of the day and slept which always seems to help. Today I made one trip out for lunch and did a few minor chores.

The light bothered me so much that I hung towels over the curtains in the bedroom. And pulled down the blinds in the living room.

See "Sinus Headache" May Be Migraine. I've read recently that the pain, previously asociated with the dilation of blood vessels during at attack, actually starts before the dilation. So there's a theory that something else malfunctions causing the pain. (But I can't find the article.)

Saddest Song

Richard Ashcroft
Some how, I bumbled on this article: The Verve Have Saddest Ever Song Written - MUSIC NEWS - I Like Music. (More about The Verve.)

This song "The Drugs Don't Work" is a reference to lead singer Richard Ashcroft's father who was dying of cancer, and the drugs refer to the medicine he was taking to kill the pain. But the drug's had stopped working and only made him worse.

A video from YouTube can be found below. And it does have an immeasurable sadness to it.

PAX!
