contours provocations
journal - 2006-0629 - thu 2130 journal | archives | home | e-mail Random IPs; Swift; Radiohead; YouTube; Feeling Unwell A couple of weeks ago, I found myself at craigslist - community classifieds. But there was a strange message that said that my IP was blocked because of abuse. I didn't pay that much attention to it given the complexities of the web. Then a few days ago, I was at Main Page - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. But this time there were a series of messages about my entries on various subjects. Most of which I'd never heard of. As I read throught the Q&A file, I noticed a reference to the use of anonymous services, one of which I happen to use Anonymizer.com. Essentially, such services disguise your real IP from the world and provide you with a proxy. It appears that the proxy rotates on a 24-hour basis. (At one time, I thought I used one that changed every time, you used the web.) Well, what I'd not thought of is that other people may use the same service(s). Hence on the day, you're not using a proxy; someone else, may be. An interesting conundrum. Sorta of an interesting twist on identity theft. Since Swift Defense has been in the news of late, I can not help but wonder if my bankruptcy triggered one of the Treasury Department's variants. "Following the money is one of the most valuable methods we have to identify and find terrorists," Undersecretary Levey said in a statement today." In the June 26 issue of "The New Yorker,: there was an article by Sasha Frere-Jones called "Reassessing Radiohead." Among her observations is, "I still don’t like Yorke’s lyrics, and I wish that the melancholy that Radiohead favors were not the status quo for so many rock bands." My immediate response was "Gosh! That's like saying how nice it would be if Fyodor Dostoevsky hadn't written about those pesky peasants!" Such a downer! I'm not sure how I discovered YouTube. But what an amazing storehouse of video clips. I discovered various Radiohead options; Jamiroquai, whom I'd almost forgotten about; The Streets" aka Mike Skinner, whom I discovered in a freebee CD in an issue "Q"; lots of Pet Shop Boys; even Frankie Goes to Hollywood, I'm not sure if the web site reflects the original group, but I did a number of variations of "Relax," but not the live version which I always enjoyed. Some other highlights were footage of Marlene Dietrich. And I came across a gorgeous commercial with Nicole Kidman. Look for "Chanel number 5 full movie." I did not see any of the Chanel "Share the Fantasy" commercials which are among the most footage ever filmed. Nor could I find the famous "Totts" champagne ad. Did I mention I went to the clinic last Saturday morning? Typical upper respiratory infection, no doubt from mishandling all the outside debris. This one has made feel really drained. And terribly indifferent to existence. PAX!
