journal - 2004-1226 - sun 2100 Cold and depressed; Magic and panto Oh, me! Oh, my! I'd forgotten that one of the symptoms of a urinary tract infection is feeling cold. In a way more so than other problems. I'd noticed feeling cold since last week, and it was only today that I caught the connection. Did I also mention that as with most infections, it makes you feel depressed? In my case that's like "bringing coals to Newcastle." Gee! That's all I need: to feel more depressed than usual. This afternoon, I finished watching "The Fellowship of the Ring." And I'm about an hour into "The Two Towers." Which I think I've only watched once since I bought it last Christmas. Gollum has to be one of the most irritating characters in fiction. Right up there with Yoda, Jar Jar Binks, George Bailey ("It's a Wonderful Life"), Dr. Chet Wakeman ("Taken"), and Chris Hobbs ("QAF"). I'd forgotten how much I liked Karl Urban as Eomer. One of the curious points of LOTR is how infrequently magic is used directly. Gandalf never knocks out a baddie with a wave of his wand. How about using it to make someone invincible to orc arrows. Speaking of Gandalf, Sir Ian is playing Widow Twankey in the Ole Vic's version of Aladdin. How on earth could I have never heard of panto. PAX!
