Searching for Chow Mein

For several weeks I've been having the chicken strips salad at Wendy's for lunch. But last week, it began to taste different. On Thursday, the taste was almost unpalatable. So Friday, I opted for Atlantic salmon at one of the chain restaurants. And it too had a slightly odd taste.

About an hour later, I began to notice a feeling of nausea. Then it dawned on me why the food had an off taste: a tummy bug of some kind. By 4, I felt really lousy, but somehow I made it to 5.

My life rotates around tummy bugs or upper respiratory infections. Of the two, I dislike the tummy problems more.

When I got home I immediately swallowed an anti-nausea tablet and went to bed. Later, I got up and took another. And continued to do so about every six hours until Saturday evening. Surprisingly enough, I felt much better by then.

Sunday, I ordered a plain baked potato at the deli but quickly decided I wanted something else. So off to the Japanese place I went, where I had a chicken cutlet. And neither item seemed to bother me.

Most thankful was I to realize that the bug was so short-lived.

Last night I began to have an irrestible craving for chicken sub-gum chow mein. For years, I've ordered the chow mein at a restaurant which was nearby and handy for lunch. But several months ago the reataurant moved, and I'd not bothered to try the new location.

Today, I decided I would go find it. I looked under restaurants in the white pages of the phone book, and discovered it was located in town A, several miles to the north. But I didn't recognize the street address.

The road was a low-traffic area until a few years ago when everything blossomed. Then it became crowded. Now it is being widened, which makes for even more congestion.

It took me about 25 minutes to finally find the restaurant. The food was excellent, but I felt rushed since it had taken so long to get there. On the way back, I needed to mail off an Amazon marketplace book and to stop at the bank. So I was definitely late for work.

I guess it was a toss up between the expectation and the actuality.

PAX!
