Irritants; Movies; Walking; Expenses

Last week was one marked by an assortment of minor irritants.

Monday I cut my finger on a cat food can while putting out the trash. I wrapped a paper towel around it until it stopped bleeding. At work, it started bleeding again. I looked around and there was blood on the keyboard, desk, floor, chair and shirt. At least it was a red shirt.

Tuesday on the way back from lunch, I knocked the nose piece off my glasses. Back at work, I tried to re-attach it. But I couldn't see how. Fortunately, the place where I bought them was not far away. And they were not busy, so it only took a couple of minutes for repairs.

Wednesday, I found out that the time I was out in June exceeded my total sick leave by two hours. So those two hours will become leave without pay; hence, my pay check at the end of July will be less than normal.

There seem like there were some other problems, but I think I've repressed them.

A friend and I drifted off to see "I, Robot" Sunday afternoon. Entertaining. Some smooth special effects. And I actually enjoyed Will Smith's character.

The great paradox of moviedom is the clash between character and personality. In this case, Will Smith employed some of his standard Will Smithism, but it was a good fit for the character.

In some case, even though you know the performer, the portrayal is so strong that the performer IS the charcter. Brando was like this. When you watch "The Godfather," you know you're watching Brando. But at the same time, you know he is the Godfather.

After I got back from the movies, I went walking in the park. Something that I'm trying to make a habit again. But it was so humid that I came away feeling stiff and tired.

I'm trying to do this in moderation, so I don't make myself sick as I did the last tome.

I've been trying to cut back on expenses of late. Several months ago, I dropped a lot of the telephone service extras - such as Caller ID, Memory Call, Call Forwarding, etc. It reduced my bill by more than 50%.

Last month, I eliminated all the premium channels from cable. Another signficant bill reduction.

Last week, I began having lunch at Wendy's for around $5. So much cheaper than the lunch at the chain restaurant.

Sunday I bought ceral and milk at WalMart. So now instead of zipping by the fast food place for a coke and biscuits before work, I have a fiber-rich bowl of ceral with skim milk. And save $3 per day in the process.

The book sales at Amazon have been helpful. But business has really slacked off. As I've said before, people should stay in doors and buy books from me at Amazon.

What I've not pursued is free lance web mastering. I guess I know as much as anybody. I've been reading the on-line forums for the software I use. And I'm amazed at the questions that tell me the person hasn't a clue.
