journal - 2004-0324 - 2100 A Walk in the Park; "What conference?"; Evildoers; Strange II Well now, I had these great intentions of writing more frequently, but I've managed to skip a week. Park walking continues. Saturday I took a nap and woke up around 7 which was too late to go. Sunday I only got in a mile because it was so windy. But Monday and Tuesday, I did two miles each time. Although the park has lights, there's an odd pattern to their positioning. Some parts are very well lit; others, not so. There are three parking areas: one for the track, another for the tennis courts, and a third for a nearby playground. Yesterday, the only slot I could find was by the playground. When I finished and returned to my car, I noticed there was not a single light in the area. Last night was another one of those in which I had trouble sleeping. So when I got home this evening, I felt exhausted. Hence, no walking today. The insanity of dealing with a coporate web site bounces along. Monday afternoon, I got an e-mail about creating a page for accepting on-line registration fees for a conference. My quick retort was: "What registration? What conference? What are we talking about?" I discovered that planning for a big conference had been going on for weeks, but no one had bothered to mention it. We have a meeting, and I say I might have a solution. BUT why, oh why, does it not occur to someone to let me know crap ahead of time. Yesterday morning, I pick up one of the brochures about the conference, and I see: "For more information: go to our website." What! What!! What!!! What the fuck is this!!! Not only had someone neglected to tell me about the registration page, but the same person had forgotten to mention the "go to our website" part. Which is actually a much bigger job than the registration! Things I would never know if I didn't read "Wired" magazine. In an article in the April issue in a story about profesor Steven Levitt. "The University of Chicago economics professor spotted the connection between the nationwide drop in crime rates from 1991 to 1999 and legalized abortion (unwanted children tend to become criminals; fewer unwanted kids shrinks the pool of future evildoers.)" I noticed somewhere on the web that the BBC is to start production of a new Doctor Who series. It's about time! And speaking of things BBC in nature. Last time I mentioned that I'd come across BBC's "Strange" on Showtime. In looking at Showtime's schedule, I discovered that the series is airing this week with one episode a night. I really like Richard Coyle who plays John Strange. There no doubt it's the hair. A deliciously sexy guy. Actually, I'm also intrigued by Toby, and the rector's assistant.
