journal - 2004-0304 - 1900 Web; Headache; Political Comment The last two weeks have been ridiculously busy at work. There have been a dozen or so big projects. And many small projects. But the little projects all seem to have immediate due dates. So this subverts the work on the big projects. And in the midst of this are all the emergencies that usually involve broken links, wrong e-mail addresses, missing text, incorrectly labeled graphics. How was I supposed to know that the black shape that the man in the photo was holding was a crow and not a cat? Jesseeeeee! And then there are the people who call because they're unable to find something on a page. I have to speak very slowly and point them in the right direction. "What ---- do ---- see ---- in ---- the ---- left ---- column? Do --- you ---- see ---- a ---- link? Very ---- good!" Many are the times that I feel an irresistible impulse to reply with a pithy, degenerate, immoral response. But I have to be dignified. Yesterday and today, I stayed home in the morning suffering from a headache that is a combination of stress, fatigue, allergy, eye strain, and too much exposure to gamma radiation. The one and only thing that works is sleep. A political comment is needed. Since the founding of the Republic, there has been a slow but steady expansion of constitutional rights to the disenfranchised. Non land-owners; people of color; women; native Americans; immigrants; those between the ages of 18 and 21; those of varying religious beliefs or no belief; the accused; the imprisoned; the physically challenged; the aged.
