contours provocations
journal - 2003-1120 - 1930 Ginko, Name Change; Pink Triangles Yesterday the wind was blustery and chilly. Several times when I glanced out the window I would see trees shaking and quavering as the wind swirled around them. There are some extrordinary displays of leafs this year. Reds and yellows and oranges interwined with brown and green. This area is cover by many types of pines, so leaf-shedding trees are uncommon. No doubt, the rarest is the ginko with its fan-shapped leafs that explode into a yellow-gold that reminds me of an ancient Egyptian amulet. Several months ago, I mentioned there had been a corporate name change at work. Which meant altering lots and lots of web pages. What was especially difficult was the lack of uniformity in using the previous name. It was singular, plural, spelled out, partially spelled out, spelled out in a different way, abbreviated, spelled out and abbreviated. And it might appear in text or a graphic. Everytime I thought I was through, someone would point out another example. Now there has been another name change. I thought it would not be as stressful as before because the prior work should have established some uniformity. However, the previous name could be viewed as either singular or plural, hence a singular or plural verb may have been used. Yester, I tried the universal find and replace feature but discovered that because of the plural - singular situation, I needed to see the context. Then I found out that find and replace was not making a distinction between possessive and standard. So I scrapped the changes and started over. The only attack that made any sense was to find the middle word in the name, look at the context, alter and move on. This became mind-numbing. But I finally finished. But today I noticed some expressions that escaped the find utility. And I'm not sure why. So tomorrow, I'll have to make another sweap. For the last couple of days, I've been noticing the call buttons for the elevators. They are triangles that point either up or down. So I was wondering what the down ones would look like if they were pink. Would nail polish work? A pink rubber stamp pad? Small sticky decals? PAX! journal | archives | home | e-mail |
