contours provocations
journal - 2003-1104 - 1900 Cough! QESG; Gay Bishop I have cough syrup which is supposed to help prevent the cough. Well sorta of. And I guess it works but not as much as I would like. But what do I take to get rid of the cough syrup taste? But maybe it tastes like that to keep you from od'ing on it. If so, then they've done a great job of it. Most of the day I slept. And when I was up, I felt so groggy that I all I wanted was to go back to sleep. I turned on the tv to see what was happening on "Queer Eye for a Straight Guy." But it was another repeat. I think the producers must have done about six shows and stopped. With no idea that it was going to become extremly popular. I think I read that Bravo was asking for at least 20 more episodes. So until some of those are finished, we're stuck seeing the same one over and over. It might be an idea to do a "Queer Eye for the Cast of 'Queer Eye for a Straight Guy'," They give great advice, none of which they apply to themselves. Flip flops! Sweat pants! Weird looking pants that stop at the calf. I admit I seldom stray from jeans. And I gravitate toward beaten-up cowboy boots. Actually, I recently bought two pairs of inexpensive new shoes: the kind with the thick soles. Because I've reached the point at which the boots need major repair, and it is expensive - $50 - $75. What has happened to the wee kitties living under my house? They've disappeared. I hope they found another secure place. The smoky-white puss is still here. But as skittish as ever. So I don't even make an attempt at petting. From the brief glimpses I get, s/he seems healthier and not as thin. Several weeks ago, I was at the new home maintenance store. (And I must say it is a whooper of a store.) And I bumped into someone I knew both professionally and from the Episcopal church. She mentioned the uproar at the recent Episcopal conference on the then upcoming ordination of an openly gay bishop. And in passing she said her son was studying for the priesthood and happened to be gay. Oddly enough I remembered meeting him when he was in high school, and he asked about the red ribbon I was wearing. And it struck me then that he might be gay. I said something along the lines of "Well, you know I'm gay..." But apparently she did not. I went on to tell her how much I appreciated her sharing with me. To give the Episcopal church credit, it has at least been willing to confront the issue of sexuality. As divisive as it is. It always strikes me as odd that people get so upset with the inclusion, this time, a gay bishop, of a new group. I can not help but think of Barbara Jordan, African-American member of the US House of Representative from Texas, and her comment during the Watergate hearings. "When 'We the People' was written, it did not include me." So for many segments of the Anglican church, "We the Faithful" does not include someone if they are gay. Institutions are supposed to reflect the populace, not the other way around. And certainly religious bodies should be in thr forefront. But, alas, they seldom are. PAX!
