Itchy; Jake; Alligator Pit

My eyes are watery and itchy, my head is congested and in general I feel feverish and lethargic. It's fall which means allergy season, or at least for me it does.

This year it has been dry and warm, if not hot. Which makes for a terrible combination. I'm hoping that the rains will come soon.

Wednesday nights, I find myself glued to the tv to watch "Jake 2.0," which is now one of my favorite shows. Very clever, three-dimensional, unpredictable and filled with inside humor.

Jake was a low-level geek in tech support at the NSA. He is accidentally "infected" with nanobots which gives him enhanced perception and reaction time. And the ability to control electronic devices without physical contact. There is a hint of Spiderman here along with other superheroes.

But this has done nothing to alter his goofy charm. He is still nerdy. In a recent episode, a friend is getting married, and Jake is the best man. Before the wedding, the friend set ups a paint ball contest. There's a wonderful shot of the last two players to be picked: a twelve-year-old and Jake. Within seconds of starting, Jake manages to shoot himself.

Jake is played by the wonderful Chris Gorham. I first saw him in "Popular" and then in "Odyssey 5." A pox on Showtime for cancelling "O5," now we'll never know if they save the world or not.

TV Without Pity has a discussion section for "Jake" and a number of other series. And frequently there will be comments about things I missed. (I read it religiously when "The Amazing Race" was on.)

I guess the important point here is to allow people to voice their comments. Inane and juvenile as they may be. And some are certainly that. The standard approach seems to be to view everything at face value.

On the way home yesterday, I heard a story on NPR about kids receiving dealy treats on Halloween. The report indicated there was no evidence to support any of the rumors.

I heard some urchins in the street last night, but none knocked on my door. Maybe the alligator pit at the end of the driveway was a deterrent.

PAX!
