contours provocations
journal - 2003-0328 - 2000 Fuel Cells; Web Radio; Glad to be Home About 30 minutes ago, I got a call from one of those survey companies. Usually I say I'm not interested. But the nice lady sounded so nice, and I was feeling in a charitable mood, so I decided to participate. Mucho questions about hydrogen fuel cells. Obviously, someone is trying to test the market. Fuel cells have a longer-life than batteries. Environmentally benign. However, cost might be a significant factor. The questions always follow a similiar pattern. Strongly agree; somewhat agree; disagree; strongly disagree. And the same question may be asked in different ways. I think they should put you on a list, so you can find out the results. At work, I've been switching back and forth from kexp in Seattle to Radio Paradise to 3WK Radio Underground. Each has pluses and minuses. Radio Underground is almost exclusively alternative. Which is great. But the free option is at a lower bandwidth. Which is very notable if you compare it to a higher bandwidth. You can receive it at a higher speed if you're willing to pay. A minus is the lack of a dj. Usually, I'll start the day with kexp because I enjoy "John in the Morning" which starts at 6 am Seattle time. I like to hear him talk about the uncertain Seattle weather. About having to get up at such an ungodly hour. And some of the underwriters are interesting. It may be the only public radio station with an adult toy store as a supporter. My problem comes when John starts playing back to back rap. Radio Paradise has the widest selection. And there is a dj, but he only indicates the CD and that's it. Because of the diverse choices, you're bound to hear some pieces you absolutely hate. In my mind, ANYTHING by Paul Simon or Van Morrison. There also an opportunity to vote and make comments on line. BUT some of the reviewers must have a cactus up their ass. Whiny, snarky, bitchy, peevish. I really think they are less interested in ranking a cut than making a snappy comment. This afternoon, I stumbled onto a channel I'd not heard before. But I don't remember the name. And they played a very bizzare song by the Frogs that had something to do with school kids and a man with candy. I'll need to check them out again. I'm so glad to be home this evening. Sleep has been sporatic all week. And I've dragged my ass around work. And the pollen has bothered me. And I've finally sent off all my bill payments. And balanced the checkbook. (I'm proud to say I have $3.17 in the bank.) So I relish the chance to sit and try to articulate my fractured thoughts. It seems to have some therapeutic effect. I come away feeling slightly less dorky than before. PAX!
