contours provocations
journal - 2002-1109 - sat 2200 Tasting pennies; Collecting Money; Ogling Twins What did I do today? Very little. I'm still trying to recuperate from bronchitis and sinus problems. I dragged myself to work each day this week and felt drained by mid-afternoon. The first thing I did when I got home each evening was to take a nap. Last night I noticed I had fever again. So this morning, I drove off to the clinic for the umteenth time. (I tell people that if keep going at this rate, I'll qualify for the toaster oven by the end of the year. On second thought, it may be the microwave. I can't remember the schedule; all I know is that with five visits, you get free ice cream.) The cool doc gave me an eight-day supply of Biaxin samples. This is a very potent antibiotic that I know will work. However, it creates a yuccky metallic taste in your mouth. Not just an aftertaste when you take a pill, but a full fledged, self-contained sensation that really lingers. You feel as if you've been licking dirty pennies. All week the weather has been cool, if not downright chilly. And there were several days of almost continuous rain. But, today it has been warm and muggy. Believe it or not, I'm sitting here with the air conditioning on. Actually, I would not mind if it rained some more. I love rain, especially when I'm not feeling so hot. It soothes some inner itch. Have you ever seen one of those lists that indicates people who are due money because of some type of bank failure, escrow account, returned deposit or whatever? About an hour ago, I was curious to know what matches I'd find if I entered my name in a Google search. And, lo and behold, I discovered my name on such a list. My initial thought was that it was someone else with the same name. But I noticed that the address was that of my parents. Then I remembered that I'd been treasurer of an organization and had deposited money in a savings and loan that went under. The company re-organized and generated a complicated scheme for covering deposits that involved stock and interest-bearing accounts. My one ethical delimma is trying to decide if the money belongs to me or the organization. I'm not even sure if the organization is still around. Although I think some variant is alive. I now remember that when I left the position, I tried to explain to the incoming officers what had happened and what to look for. Alas, I also recall that they acted like they didn't want to be bothered. One of those situations in which there's an emphasis on a fresh start, and let's not be bothered with the past. By the way, the amount in question is less than a $100. Previously, I've mentioned watching "The Amazing Race" on CBS on Wednesday nights. The premise is simple: pairs of players race around the planet in search of clues. The first team to arrive at the final destination collect $1,000,000. Very fast-paced. Addictive to watch. Funny. And unnerving. Two of the contestants are twin brothers who happen to be models. And in the past, they've done some fairly homoerotic posing. I've collected a number of photos, and I thought it only fitting to share a few with the world. Visit Riker Twins. Two very attractive individuals. Who come across in the program as being really nice guys. PAX!
