contours provocations
journal - 2001-0721 - sat 1800 Web Radio; Today; Tangerine Speedos? All week I've felt pressured, so I was very glad for the weekend to arrive. Now the problem is not to become preoccupied with chores and household repairs. As several times before, I've been experimenting with web radio at work. What a cluttered mishmash it is! I'd grown tired of VirginRadio.uk because of the incessant commericals. Of course, it really is a traditional AM radio channel extended to the web. 3WK has a number of positive features. The alternative format has enough edge to it to prevent cerebral dry rot. The custom Real Audio screen always shows what's playing. It is virtually commercial free save for some plugs for tee-shirts. Even those have a certain in-your-face charm, "Just buy the damn tee-shirt and get it over with!) And it has introduced me to any number of artists I would not have known about otherwise. BUT the heavy-rotation format is irritating. And I like to hear a "live" voice from time to time. I've tried several free-form options, but they lack a dynamic play list akin to 3WK. And some are a tad too free-formy for my taste. As much as I respect new age, it is too soporific for work. I find my brain decomposing. Last week I did a search for web-only radio, then pursued a number of links. And I found a site that may work - kexp.org from Seattle. A mixed format. Actual "live" voices. No heavy rotation. And a dynamic playlist. I'm hoping it proves worthwhile. I was, believe it or not, up before noon today. Even was one of the first customers at the Japanese restaurant. Then on to the post office. And next the pharamcy for a couple of re-fills. Then home again. Although not enamored of the idea of going to the laundry on a Saturday, I felt I had no option today. So off I went. Only a couple of customers, so the experience was not too bad. I lugged everything back home. As soon as I opened the door, the felines plopped on the floor and, in general, got in the way. Then they raced to frolic in the basket. As I tried to make the bed, they kept trying to hide under the sheets. To say the last few days have been hot would be an understatement. This morning the heat index was 105 by 11. Unexpectedly, it rained in mid-afternoon. But instead of lowering the temp, it only raised the muggy factor. Around 5, I went to a deli for din din. I keep asking myself why I go there for the food is overly bland. Almost tasteless. And the AC setting would be more suitable for penguins. However, there was a guy in khaki shorts and a white tee with a golden tan who kept attracting my attention. Beautiful legs the colour of cinnamon. Sci-fi Channel is showing the last set of "First Wave." The great virtue of it is the actor who plays the lead. His muscular frame is enhanced by the tight black tee and semi-sculpted jeans. A very attractive man. But where are the shower scenes? The tangerine speedos? Semi-nude bondage shots? PAX!
