A Leaky Faucet; Desired to be Desired

This was a productive weekend - household-chores-wise. Ye biggest achievement was the completion of the bathroom sink this afternoon. Several weeks ago, I started off to fix a leaky faucet, but I couldn't remove it. So my plans shifted. Then I looked at the sink and decided it had seen better days. So my plans shifted. Then I looked at the drain pipes, did some jiggling, and one of the pipes crumbled. So my plans shifted.

So after multiple trips to Home Depot, I ended up with a new white sink, a new chrome faucet, two felixible steel water pipes and a large assortment of white PVC drain pipes, connectors and plastic washers. And a couple of instruction pamphlets in three languages. Gads! All I wanted to do was to fix a leaky faucet!

The drain pipes were the biggest problem. Pipe "A" would not connect to pipe "B." Washer "C" was too small. The connectors and the washers didn't match. Well, of course, they would if I knew what I was doing. So after about a dozen attempts and lots of water on the floor, it all actually worked. Hot Damn! What's that number for the International Brotherhood of Plumbers?

Another superb episode of QAF just finished. (Last night, I think I saw the actor who plays Ted in a Payday candy commercial. I caught only the briefest glimpse, but it looked like him. And the voice certainly sounded the same.)

Tonight there was a telling monologue by Uncle Vic about his experience with the cop in the restroom. He spoke of how he still thinks of himself as looking like Brian. He sees himself in the mirror but doesn't know who he is. He wondered when was the last time someone touched him. Was it the nurse who gave him the barium enema? And he spoke of measuring his life in terms of pills. So when the cop at the urinal turned his way, Vic wanted it. Desired to be desired again.

When I watch QAF, I wonder where I fit. I guess that I'm attracted to Ted's new boyfriend the most - to the character and the actor. A lost puppy that needs a good home. But I don't see myself as Ted. But his sensibilites orbit mine. We share a dillante's curiosity about leather. A predilection for flawed boyfriends. And a feeling of unworthiness.

This is strange in a way for Emmett is far closer to me in terms of geography and background because he is supposed to be from Hazlehurst MS which is not too far from Jackson where I live. (BTW Hazlehurst is the home of Lypsinka.) But Emmett appears to retain a southern style of behaviour that is foreign to me.

If I were a character in QAF it would be someone who was aloof, very private, mysterious and needy. Maybe a fellow supplicant to Ted's leather daddy. I think I could get into that.

PAX!
