Sinus infection; Can I play with you gun?; Is it true about ...?

Sinus infection

Last night was another one of those nights when I had trouble sleeping, so it was after 1 before Mr. Sandman had the decency to show up. Then the felines woke me around 5 wanting their breakfast. And when I re-woke, it was 7:55. Crap!

The morning was just dandy! Ha! Ha! Ha! My head hurt, I felt achy and could not concentrate. I wanted to close the door, put my little head down on the desk and cry. Double Crap! I skipped early for lunch in hopes that some nice hot Chinese vittles would assuage my sagging spirits. Then for an hour or so in the early afternoon, I felt vaguely nauseous. Either it is part of the sinus infection, a side effect of the antibiotics, or the Chinese place is trying to poison me. As the pm progressed, I began to perk up. 'Course even now, I still don't feel great.

Can I play with you gun?

After watching "Roswell," I studied the "Red River" segment of "The Celluloid Closet." I thought about the fact that the dialogue is open to a number of different spins. The scene is set with two cowboys, played by John Ireland and Montgomery Clift, riding up and getting off their horses.

Ireland: That's a good looking gun you were about to use back there. Can I see it?

Clift: (Strokes his nose with his thumb and looks slightly amused, then hands gun over.)

Ireland: (Takes gun, draws his own and hands it to Clift.) And you'd like to see mine.

Ireland: (Examines gun.) Nice! Awful nice!

Ireland: (Still examining gun and looking slightly sideways at Clift.) You know, there are only two things more beautiful than a good gun! A Swiss watch or a woman from anywhere. You ever had a good Swiss watch?

Clift: (Indicating to Ireland.) Go ahead! Try it!

Ireland: (Fires off a shot and knocks can into air.)

Clift: (Hits can in air with a shot.)

Ireland: Hey! That's very good!

Clift: (Shoots another can, knocking it into air.)

Ireland: (Hits can in air.)

Clift: Hey! Hey! That's good too!

Clift: Go on! Keep it going!

I love that scene. It manages to be funny and erotic at the same time. Montgomery Clift may have been the first actor to create a brooding, angst-driven, emotionally vunerable screen persona. "Red River" was filmed in '48, several years prior to James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause." I've read that Dean was fascinated by Clift, and I can see why. Clift's profile was far more striking than Dean's, but then Dean's body language was far more intense.

An idea just popped into my demented brain about a storyline revoling around Clift and Dean meeting somehow. Maybe the common factor could be Liz Taylor, who was in movies with each of them. Or another angle could be, or so I've read, that both were into "heavy traffic." (From what I've come across, Dean was a pain freak and Clift was into S&M.) These may only be rumors.

Is it true about ...?

Speaking of rumors. Have you ever noticed that rumors always seem to be only about certain people. The "are they gay" rumor always circles around Tom Cruise, Richard Gere, Ben and Matt, Keanu, etc. But you don't hear the same rumor applied to say Chris Slater, Jude Law, etc. Or do you? Hmmmmm! And have you also noticed, that frequently, sooner or later, the rumors turn out to be true. Examples - Louganis, Rock Hudson, Liberace, George Michaels, Elton, Michael Stipe. By the way, what ever happened to Tom Selleck's wife? Is it true about Mark W? What C&W star, whose name rhymes with "dandy" is said to walk on the left? Yikeeees! This is turning into a 21st century version of "Hollywood Confidential."

I feel so cheap and tawdry! And gads does that feel good!

PAX!
