Richard of This Life (Update 03/07: no longer available) sent me a great letter about QAF (BV). The new episodes air this coming week on Channel 4. And yes there was a verbal reference to rimming. According to Richard "The rimming scene does come from episode one. Stuart very briefly gives Nathan a lick with his tongue and as Nathan shudders Stuart tells him "Nobody told you about that, did they?' " I need to do some searching to see what I can find on the net.
The sweet and wonderful man also sent me a bulge. My tart retort to him was, "Now I have one." I also thought of the line from one of Edward Albee's short plays, "The Sandbox" I think, which is "I've just gone sticky wet." I don't mean that literally, the line just came to me.
I was thinking of what I'd written about American straight culture. First, I'm convinced it is impossible for the average hetro person to understand what being gay is or means. Second, the idea of trying to change someone's opinion on homosexuality is a waste of time. Third, screw Liviticus. Fourth, screw the "Gospel" of Paul. Fifth, being a "good little homo" will have no effect on people's perceptions. I remember attending an on-going seminar on sexuality and religion, and someone kept making the point that once people saw that gays were the same as everyone, there would be acceptance. Not exactly is my thought. If you accept people who are the same as you, then nothing has been achieved. The virtue of acceptance is in accepting someone because of their differences, in spite of them. My gosh, I'm being to sound like a queer version of Lenin.
I received a couple of comments about the mention of fetishes. Several weeks ago, Keith of KeithCam wrote of fetishes. (Update 03/07: now at broken whole. At this point, I don't remember what he said, but I was impressed that he said it. My guess is that fetishes are one of the great taboos of the culture. We may not discuss them even among our closest friends. I also have a theory that they are almost primal in nature. And I'd bet that they are as genetic as being gay is. (Update 03/07: Or acquired at a very early age.) Many guys have a thing for leather and levis. Or rope. Or fantasies of submission. Of ideas of domination. Or thoughts of public sex. Or an attraction to anyone wearing a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Or doing it with Bugs Bunny. Strange the attraction these things have. It is early or late or something:the cats are hinting that I should turn off the lights. PAX!
