On Thinking About QAF (British Version)

When last we talked, I was musing about QAF (British version). Then I bounced off to read journals. And found at Chaos in Austin (Update 03/07: The site is now titled "ChaosMen.com" at the same address and is devoted to male erotica.) some ramblings similar to mine. I also found I have a 20-second preview, in RealMedia format, of the series, but I don't know where I got it.

I first read of QAF (British version) in "Advocate" or "Out." A lot was said about the sex-hungry negative aspects of the characters. Indications of a rimming scene were mentioned. But I don't know if that meant there was some type of depiction or only a verbal reference. And there was the discussion of the underaged character. On reading this, I remember thinking that this sounded too simplistic.

However, on watching the web videos and looking at the episode descriptions, I got a different impression. A drama more textured and complex; albeit, one with a very explicit sexual domain that makes many feel uncomfortable. Far too frank for American culture save for a premium channel.

Not too wander too far afield, but American straight culture is amazing. TV, movies, mags, and newspapers are saturated with violence. Gun shows can sell everything from a derringer to semi-automatics. Video games delight in exploding villains and heros. Some professional sports are only a notch or so above the circuses of ancient Rome. B U T showing two guys kissing, and suddenly people become agitated. Jesus!

On Being Out at Sunset

I worked late, then went by the post office. As I was coming out I was struck by how the fading sun highlighted all the vertical lines. Poles and posts were reduced to thin, flat black rectangles. As I looked west, there seemed to be dozens of vertical lines scattered across the horizon. How very curious that I had never noticed this before.

On Going to the Laundry

Yesterday evening, I forced myself to go to the laundry. I'd put it off as long as I could. I managed to get there around 5:30. As usual, the "neat" guy was there. This is the guy who always manages to look so collected, not a hair out of place, so very together. Also as usual, I was looking especially derelict. A bleach-splotched green tee, a very old pair of button fly jeans with holes in the left knee and below the left back pocket, no underwear and no socks. I'd forgotten to wear a belt, so I kept having to pull the jeans up, and since I was without briefs, I also kept having to arrange my balls to keep from castrating myself. All in all a really classy presentation. All that was missing was a paper bag containing a pint of Thunderbird.

On Having a Bulge Fixation

Ok! Ok! I know you've heard this before. But I like the visual aesthetics of a guy in faded jeans with a nice bulge. But how often do you see such? I especially am fond of the casual look, as though everything was just thrown together. Very masculine yet comfortable with it. I know this preoccupation is cheap and tawdry, but it is ever so much fun. Now if I can just figure out a way to get the guys on the WB programs to dress accordingly.

PAX!
