Last night it was around midnight when I started writing, but this night it is after midnight as I start. I still do not like the way I feel. Again the slight headache, the slight achiness. But what I keep noticing is how cold I feel. And indeed it is chilly, but the sinus infection, I'm sure, keeps screwing up my body's sense of temperature. It is like when you have fever and chills, but not nearly as bad. I had trouble sleeping last night, what else is new, and decided to stay in bed this morning. My mother and I were supposed to have lunch, but I called and cancelled. Staying in bed is exactly what I'm planning on doing later this morning.
I finished reading "Living Upstairs" this evening. As much as I love the book, it ends too abruptly. In fact, I even considered that my copy was missing some pages, so I checked another copy at Lemuria, but it was the same. I'm wondering if the author was not sure what to do, so he, more or less, just stopped. I keep checking for another in the series, but one has not surfaced. I need to search the net for some info on Joseph Hansen. I first discovered him via the Dave Brandstetter mysteries, which were one of the first set of books about a recurring gay character. Toward the end of the "Living Upstairs," there is a word for gay that I'd forgotten about - "mouse." One character sez something like, "I thought you were a mouse...meaning you like guys." He continues, "From are you a man or a mouse." Squeak! Squeak! Makes me want to run up an elephant's trunk. (Update 02/07: See Wikipedia - Joseph Hansen (writer).
This afternoon, I was forced to work on the work splash and home pages for today. I started a splash page before Christmas as a holiday-greetings page, but then had so many good comments about it, I opted to continue it in a different format. It took me about three weeks to figure out what I wanted to do with the page. I'd played with several ideas and formats, but I now feel comfortable with the direction I'm taking. That certainly makes it easier to create each day. And I wanted to archive each day's copy. But I didn't do that at first, then I erased some. And speaking of erasing and such, after I finished this afternoon's work, I realized I'd erased Saturday's home page. Yikes! I thought of trying to retrieve it from the tape backup, but I've learned that takes a long time. The tape contains a complete backup of the system which makes for a huge amount of data. So I decided it would be easier to make a new home page for Saturday. UNIX is not forgiving when you erase a file. Although I should set it to send erased files to a holding directory.
This weekend's tv is boring in comparison's with last week's Sundance Channel preview. I called Time Warner, and they indicated they might start offering it, for now they were testing the waters. Someone at work, in another county hence a different cable company, indicated that their cable system provided Bravo which was doing a complete run of "Twin Peaks." Grrrr! I did watch the new NBC answer to the "X-Files"" called The Others." NBC said they wanted a scary show for the weekend. And I must admit I was scared - fucking scared I'd die of boredom before it finished. I got so tired of it, I turned it off ten minutes before the end. Mulder and Scully, it ain't! And speaking of the telly, I'm becoming a WB junkie. What I've noticed about the programs is the superb writing that is not insulting to the audience. Even if the characters are very young, the dialogue is fairly sophisticated. This is the complete opposite of something like "Friends" in which the characters are 30-something, but the dialogue is demented. I like characters that have a certain amount of intelligence. In the past few years, one of my favorites was Wilson of "Home Improvements" who always had some arcane piece of knowledge to pass along to the semi-dim-witted Tim. "Popular" has almost become the highlight of my week. Quirky, odd, and very funny. And not afraid to have, not one, but two overweight characters. And a beautiful guy who is miserable because of his domineering father. And a geeky kid who is in his own little world. And a girl who admits to questioning her sexuality. Even the two model-girls are different. And a female biology teacher who appears to be into rubber and leather. All that is missing is a guy questioning his sexuality.
Time to upload or download or something. Has anyone thought of using the term "download" to refer to jacking off? Hmmm!!! Would seem very appropriate for net sex! PAX!
