contours provocations
journal - 1999-1121 - sun 2130 journal | archives | home | e-mail Rain; a glass of wine; personals; looking at cars; "Shooting the Past" Surprisingly it rained Friday around midnight but only for a brief period. Even those few minutes were welcome since it is so dry. I made the mistake Friday night of having a glass of wine with din din. Whenever I do this, it throws my sleeping off. Which is exactly what happened. Plus the cats were rambunctious and woke me several times. They wanted daddy to get up at 3 and serve breakfast. Little urchins! So when I woke, I felt lousy. But I got up, worked on some web page stuff, then went back to bed. Last night I rambled through the personals at Yahoo. Several days ago, I had looked at those at Excite. The comparison between the two is stark. Those at Yahoo seem overly mercenary, depressingly so. Totally devoid of any sense of romance. I always thought there should be more to personals than a catalog of sexual peccadillos. Today was quiet. No excitement. No murder or mayhem. I did look at cars at the Toyoto dealership - another depressing experience. I wonder if there is any place around that sells old Yugo's? I've been watching "Shooting the Past" on "Masterpiece Theatre." The story of a vast photo collection, literally millions of shots, housed in a mansion that has been bought by an American intent on turning the property into a business school. The collection is an unparalleled, unique record of 20th century life. A situation that has little impact. The stalwart staff attempts to maintain the collection by reason, logic, emotion, chicanery and outright theft but have only succeeded in gaining a week. An absolute mesmerizing production, one in which the photographs are the true star. PAX!
