contours provocations
journal - 1999-1105 - fri 1930 journal | archives | home | e-mail Slightly better; devoid of gumption; Cable 2K; cat's paw; TV channel numbers?; balkanized recorded music channels I think I started writing this yesterday but gave up. Today was a continuation of yesterday in that I stayed home and slept. Believe it or not, I think I feel slightly better this evening. But totally devoid of energy, interest or gumption. Since Monday, the days have been warm, but the evenings become downright chilly. Certainly a change and a welcome one. Even though I've been off for several days, I've watched very little television. Nothing seems to hold my attention. Time-Warner has recently introduced something called "Cable 2K," which offers an expanded set of video channels, multiple versions of HBO and Cinemax Music Choice, a universal remote, and an on-screen viewing guide. Unfortunately, I can not remember the channel numbers ... EMERGENCY PAUSE - Dear Jesus Help Me!!! One of the cats, Athena, got her paw caught in the cassette opening of the VCR! Snoopy! Snoopy! Snoopy! Minerva and Athena just have to get into everything. Cabinets, drawers, boxes, closets, garbage cans. And now the VCR. Agggghhhh! Now where was I? Unfortunately, I can not remember which channel number matches which channel, so I always have to look them up. Alas, the on-screen viewing guide is wrong most of the time. One of the biggest problems is that neither the hardcopy cable guide or TV Guide list the multiple HBO or Max channels, so you never know what's coming on. I've been trying Music Choice for a few days to see what it offers in the way of underground rock akin to the Internet-only 3WK. Three options seem similar - Origins, Alternative Rock and Progressive. But I haven't figure out the differences. And I noticed that Alternative includes lots of rap even though there is a separate Rap channel. Amazing how balkanized recorded music has become. Talk about niche marketing! PAX!
