Sorting bookmarks about journals; expecting to see shawl-draped peasant women in the just-filed-for-bankruptcy grocery; coming out to a sky with light from some transmutated element like an O'Keeffe painting

Last night, I tried to sort out my long list of bookmarks for journals. I finally decided on five categories:

general journal info - sites that give general information about journals, or how to be a better journal writer, etc.

journal lists and rings - more or less what it says

daily reads - sites that I read every day or as often as they are updated - sites that give journals a good name

uncertain journals - those that are interesting but are updated very rarely or those that may be more of a home page than a journal

defunct journals - those I've read at some point and found intriguing but have not been updated in at least six months

There have been many journals that I've tried but have abandoned. That does not mean they are not worthy efforts, they just don't resonate with my psyche. As I look at the list, I notice it gravitates toward "family." But, by no means, exclusively so.

After coming home and doing the usual clean up, I had to go back out to the grocery store. The most dreaded and dire event had occurred: I was out of cokes! I wove my way to Jitney Premier, a member of the chain that has just filed for bankruptcy, and, as last week, it was an odd experience. Counters would be fully stocked to a point, then there would be a large vacant space. I thought of markets in the Russian federation and almost expected to see shawl-draped peasant women, surrounded by small ragamuffin children, plodding down the aisles in search of moldy bread and watery peanut butter. The strangest item was that all the TV Guides were two-weeks old! Bizarre.

As I came out the westward sky was shifting from purple to violet to black. Colors that exist for only a few minutes like light from some transmutated element. Shades that remind me of O'Keeffe's paintings.

PAX!
