“I Am" by Daniel Broom, 6th period

I am America, angry and sad.
I wonder why someone would do this.
I hear another plane coming.
I see the plane swooping in.
I want it to stop.
I am America, angry and sad.

I pretend it did not happen.
I feel mad, at the people who did it.
I touch the people falling.
I worry they will die, worrying about families.
I weep for the lost.
I am America, angry and sad.

I understand war happens.
I say “I will get them.”
I dream of catching them.
I hope this never again happens.
I am America, angry and sad.

“I Am” by Matthew Berrell, 7th period

I am the cold and lonely wind that blew that day.
I wonder why this had to happen to those people.
I hear their screams and their weeping.
I see the destruction and the confusion.
I want to help them, yet I can’t.
I am the cold and lonely wind that blew that day.

I pretend that I can’t hear them, but I can’t shut them out.
I feel the sorrow of the people who lost those dear to them.
I touch their tear-stained faces, as I whisk by.
I worry that the worst is yet to come.
I cry for those who have no families to go home to.
I am the cold and lonely wind that blew that day.

I understand how those people feel.
I say so because I am alone.
I dream that those who did this see the error of their ways.
I try to forget the looks on those people’s faces.
I hope that something like this will never happen again.
I am the cold and lonely wind that blew that day.
