My Commitment to America’s Future
by Fabian Drummond
So many people in the past have made a commitment to America’s future-many not knowing that they would be famous for their quotes, and their words of wisdom in these modern days. “ I have a Dream” was the great speech that Martin Luther King Jr. gave in August 1963. He was trying to get equal rights for everyone, and for everyone to become one as a union. Little did he know he was to become very famous for his speech, and everyone would begin to get along with one another. He made a big commitment to America’s future and it has had a big effect on our lives today.
When I’m older I’d like to be able to look back on my past and feel proud of myself, just like Martin Luther King Jr. I’d like to know that if those who struggled for our freedom were still here, they’d be proud of me. I want to know that I had an effect on our future, and I made a difference on America’s society. I’d also like to know that I made a huge commitment to America, and everyone knows that this is what Jesus would want to see, here on earth.
When I look at America today I say to myself, “we have been truly blessed to be able to live our lives free, and able to have so many privileges, and rights.” From experience we all know that freedom is good and I think everyone in the world should be free, and able to do what he or she likes. If I could change the world I’d make every country in the world free. If they were free we wouldn’t have to worry about other countries having a grudge against us because we’re free, and they are not.
My commitment is to do the best I can do at everything I do. I want to be able to design houses for people who have no place to stay. I want to help move homeless people off the streets and into homes. I want to have a place where the poor can gather and eat a decent meal, and have a decent place to stay every night. I want to help America become a better place by speaking at public gatherings. I want to speak about gangs, violence, and terrorist all over the world. I want to help the addicts, and the drug dealers. But no one thinks about the fact that the homeless man or woman that we saw on the street could have been us, those people that are starving could be dead tomorrow, and we did nothing to help them.
My commitment is basically what most Americans dream of, (A clean, nice, comfortable, enjoyable life). If I could change all these things I would but just one is not powerful enough. It takes one to be noticed, but many to be conquered. And my commitment is to get America’s attention and work together to help one another.
I’m not a great writer, but I hope I have gotten my point across. God did not put us here to suffer, but to enjoy life, and follow his beliefs. When everyone does that America will become a better place, and so will the whole world. My commitment has been said, but not been done. But I would like to see it happen. My words are coming to an edge, and my commitment is summing up. I want to look back at this essay 10-20 years from now, and compare my accomplishments, to the commitments I made in this. If I have I’ll be very proud of myself, but still I’ll struggle for more. If I haven’t we have a lot of catching up to do, and less time to do it.
This is my commitment to America’s future. Now is the time to make a difference. Let’s come together, love each other, and unite as one. Let’s commit to America’s future.
