Notes on transits - 2008 - the first part

Mars:
Mars is Retrograde as the year begins, going backwards into Gemini.  It begins the year making an opposition, on January 2nd, to Pluto at 28 Sag.   This degree is significant because it comes up again later in the year as the degree to which Pluto retrogrades for a last taste of Sagittarius before turning toward Capricorn not to return to Sagg for 200 years. But that is a different story.  Mars keeps going backwards after this Sag Pluto opposition, and makes it to 24 degrees of Sag on January 30, when it goes direct.  It then proceeds forward, passing out of Gemini on March 5, and then on April 9th, making it toward the point where it went retrograde last November, 12 degrees Cancer.

This describes a drama that Mars plays out from November, 2007 to April 2008.  It has to do with lots of stirred up emotions in matters of family, home and tribe.  There is a strong tendency for emotions to surge over the top and be directed at family or supporters.   Part of the tension may be in response to evolutional pressures to change and transform.  This is because of Mar's aspects to Pluto during this time, which includes not only the January 2 opposition to Pluto as it leaves Sag, but also a second opposition a few weeks later, as Mars direct reenters Cancer and opposes Pluto as it enters Capricorn on March 5th.   Mars putting pressure on Pluto can be highly motivated in action but not if emotions, particularly impulses toward scorched earth policy, lead to the burning of bridges.   Water problems and emergencies may arise during this time.

Pluto

Uranus & Neptune

Jupiter

Pluto makes its entrance into Capricorn on Sunday, January 27th.  It goes direct through 1 degree of Capricorn to go retrograde on March 30.   It retrogrades back into Sag on June 15, and makes it back as far as 28 degrees of Sag when it goes direct again on September 8.

Pluto has been in Sag since March 6, 1995.  This has meant 'life and death matters' in the areas of religion, culture, and ideology. In Capricorn the transformation required is in the area of structure, government and social order.  Infrastructure problems may rank high and require a transformative energy. The change in Plutonic expression may start rather gently this year; although Mars escorts Pluto into his new sign which is stormy-ish, or at least riled up, heavyweights Uranus and Neptune are humming along in their visionary, idealistic transits of Pisces and Aquarius.  The energy for unity and awareness via humanitarian connection and spiritual depth is very strong this year and with Jupiter passing through Capricorn as well, now is a good time to build the infrastructures to sustain though the tougher transit of Pluto in Capricorn which comes down the line in about April 2009, as Uranus transits in Aries to square Pluto.  Now is the time to build good will and spiritual practice in your life and community.

Saturn in Virgo Saturn entered Virgo in September of 2007.  The restrictive or limiting focus of Saturn is being expressed in Virgoan way, through daily routines, pets, maintenance and health.  Problems or shortcomings, the need for discipline, patience or forbearance may arise from the details of managing the everyday. Food quality may be emphasized.
Venus Venus moves as fast as the Earth, so her influence is more fleeting.  But still, where she is in the zodiac can describe the esthetic tone, the current appreciation criteria, the relationship mood.  Venus is in Sag through January 26, an adventurous, fickle and funloving expression.  A more cool and professional esthetic will take over from January 27-February 18.  From February 18 until March 12, Venus takes the Aquarius favor of intellectual, avant-garde and individualistic.  Venus in Pisces from March 13 appreciates most the dreamy, mystical and transcendent.
