JimHollandsworth
is the Associate Provost and Professor of Psychology at the Universityof
Southern Mississippi. He received his B.A. in History from Davidson
College in 1966 and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the
University of North Carolina in 1975.He also holds as masters degree
in Physiology and Biophysics from the University
of Mississippi Medical Center.
Hollandsworth's interest in the Civil War dates back to the late 1950swhen he first began reading in the area. After a successful career as a psychologist, during which he authored two books on the physiological bases of human behavior and mental disorders, Hollandsworth rediscovered his orginal interest in American history and now spends muchof his free time pursuing topics related to the Civil War in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Hollandsworth first became interested in Nathaniel P. Banks while he was researching a book on Richard Taylor, but Michael Parrish beat him to the punch. Hollandsworth is also the author of the Louisiana Native Guards, which was published by the LSU Press in 1995.
