Looking Back

Looking back on what seems like only yesterday

I see little girls with pigtails at kindergarten play

How they loved the games and songs like Farmer in the Dell

And their favorite thing of all was the time for Show and Tell

The year passed by so quickly as did the summer too

Now its time for "Big School" Oh! What's a mom to do?

You just took a deep breath and hoped for the best

And let God and the teacher take care of the rest.

Those first six years were filled with much learning and fun

And how thrilling at Jr. Olympics when your team had just won.

Remember the Easter egg hunt, Valentine cards and class trips to the zoo

Don't forget sleep overs, diaries and phone calls just to name a few.

It seems summer after sixth grade such changes you made

Then came Jr. High, new rules and being grounded for bad grades

There was make-up and loud music and wanting to go out

And attitudes were changing, you were growing up, no doubt.

The next few years were some tough times for sure

And both parent and teens sometimes wondered if they'd endure

Though things seemed to be getting back to normal

It was time for driving and dances and Beauty Review formals.

So many things you've learned in the last twelve years

From teachers, family and friends, though laughter and tears

Though it seems like no time you just learned to read

Now you not only follow, but you're beginning to lead.
