Who is Bob Bennett?

I had never heard of Bob Bennett the singer, songwriter, guitarist extraordinaire, and poet until about 9 years ago now. Somehow my oldest brother who sent the new "Christian music" coming out in the late 60's and early 70's with Stonehill, Love Song, and some of the other early pioneers in this new genre, didn't get around to sending a Bob Bennett album. How much I had missed! I suppose Bob was a few years behind the earliest Christian singer songwriters in that time period.

About 9 years ago, our local American Family Radio had been giving "Small Graces" a lot of airplay at the time. (Thank the Lord for CD's! If I had played an old timey vinyl album as much as I played Bob's CD "Small Graces", it would be so scratchy I'd have had to order another one or several by now!!)

Not that I am anybody special but like a lot of other people, I believe I can recognize real talent when I hear it. Bob Bennett is the best Contemporary Christian artist, in my opinion, that I have heard so far. 
Especially in the subset of folk contemporary christian music.

Just what I love the singer, songwriter and musician all in one. Story songs are my favorite.
Some friends and I were privileged to attend one of the "Killer B's" concerts in Cordova, Tn and the songwriting workshop the next day.
Bob, as always, was friendly, and freely circulating in the midst of us all during breaks. Bruce Carroll and Billy Sprague were outstanding and unforgettable as well, just as you might expect. It was an event I'll never forget.
An event 2nd only to seeing Celtic Woman perform in 2006 at the Orpheum in Memphis . Best location and best show I have ever attended bar none. But that is apples and oranges.

What I say about Bob Bennett is that his lyrics are meaty , real, and honest. His voice is rich and full, and his guitar style is crisp, clean and intricate. I have his songs "Hand of Kindness" and "Jesus In Our Time" on my Ipod these days.
