Greater Love Than This
| "Greater
Love than this no man hath than that he lay down his life for his
friends.(John 15:13)
Greater love than this... Even if we have sought first the Kingdom of Heaven, (which commandment is given to ALL the baptised) and if we have laid aside all and followed him in religion, there are countless things to be done, that must be done: eating, resting, responding to others, keeping a roof over our heads, maintaing the House of God, etc. that we may sometimes forget the Mystery of Our Communion with the Divine. He died so that He could give us His Risen Body to Eat, and His Life Giving Blood to Drink, so that we might be joined to Him in the closest possible way. "This is the Love that knows no corruption."(St. Ignatios of Antioch) However, it must not be an unworthy reception of Him that comes to be united to us, as worthy as we never worthy can be. The Church requires confession and spiritual preparation for this. Terribly, we see in all those churches and sects affected by Modernism that communing without Confession, without the spiritual preparation which Tradition has set, attendance at Vespers, the Prayers in Preparation for Holy Communion, the Canon for Holy Communion, or some such equivalent, or without the recitation of the Prayers of Thanksgiving has certainly led to Unworthy Communion and Unworthy Lives. Who thinks he or she knows better than the Church? Greater Love than this.... Christ loves us ( for reasons quite incomprehensible to the Human Mind! ) and desires to be united with us primarily physically in His and Our Body and Blood , partaking of His Divinity, by the Descent of the Holy Spirit, but also that having received we remain in Him, and In the Father, and In the Spirit " praying without ceasing,"(I Thess.5:13) "the Spirit crying out with unutterable groanings."(Rom. 8:26). the Pre-Comunion and Post-Communion prayers are meant to be only a beginning, so that we should be rapt, or wrapped in prayer as in a Garment of Glory, singing in our hearts, "Shine! Shine! O Thou New Jerusalem!" "Thou has enratured me with Love of Thee, O Christ, and Transformed me with Divine Desire. Burn away therefore the tares of my sins with an Immaterial Fire, that being so filled with Delight in Thee , I may rejoicing worthily magnify Thy Dual Presence, Who Alone art Good." |
