Friends Romans and Countrymen

From Boyd's Homepage

The Cyber World About twelve years ago I discovered the new world that a computer modem opened you up to. I met some pretty interesting characters along the way and made a lot of good friends. Mojo was one of the first people I met on the Compuserve CB Simulator. He was always good to help show a newcomer the ropes.

Snarf was one of the most popular characters ever on CB. Folks couldn't wait to throw him a cookie just to watch him jump for it--and CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP. Unfortunately, Snarf's cookie eating habit got the best of him one night when he was killed by a giant run away cookie. Snarf is gone, but Pat Nevins who created him lives on and has his own Homepage which is just as clever as poor old Snarf ever was. I recommend this page just to show what somebody with a little creativity (or a lot) can do with HTML and too much time on their hands.

Petals is a left coast CB'er. She was really swell company the last time I visited LA and even arranged a little party for me. A lot of homepages have a theme to them. Petals has a design theme to her pages, centered around either cows or flowers. It took her a while to put a page up but now that she has one, I think she's hooked.

Starr is a St. Louis babe from CB. She's a late-niter like me, so I've gotten to know her pretty well over the years--even though we've never actually met. Calli, The Molson drinking grad student has also caught the homepage bug. She has a neat directory of compuserve refugees.

Mozart has a really pretty page that also features a neat Java animation. She also writes WWW pages for hire if you need it. Dark Night is a real sports fan, although you can't tell it from his Homepage. Pebsie is an actress and director in Chicago. They've got a show called COED Prison Sluts. I'm dying to see it--with a title like that it's got to be good. She also made "Babes on the Web" Woo! Woo!

Nuke just loves to have people visit his homepage. In fact, he's a little obsessed with it. So make him happy and go there. Oddity also has a cool homepage, although he's not really all that odd--at least not by CB standards. Persian Kitty has a collection of links Senator Exxon would love to get his stubby fingers on. Ostrich Man has some very large and funny-looking chickens on his page. He's in Europe and he's into Godzilla--both of which is very cool. Nikola Tesla has a homepage dedicated to himself and his CB namesake. It's very cool.

A while back, our friends at Compuserve lowered their rates on the whole system except for the users of the CB Simulator, some of whom saw an increase in their monthly charges. So a bunch of us decided to switch to the Internet IRC (Internet Relay Chat) and pay around twenty or thirty dollars a month instead of a hundred or more to Compuserve. Nowadays, the folks from CB can usually be found either on the undernet at the #CBporch or on Dalnet on #ThePenthouse. Ossie made a homepage for this weary band of travelers called The CB Porch Homepage with pictures and stuff.
