These are a few of my drawings.Although I've drawn all my life these are all fairly recent (within the last five years). It's been interesting to experiment with converting the paper images to digital ones. You can get a lot more precision with a digital image but they don't seem to have the same spirit as one that you actually touched.

I tried to manipulate the files so that they aren't too large to handle. Please click on the preview image to receive the larger one.

I like to work with "woodless" pencils with a fairly soft graphite so I can get a very dark mark.Although some people make a big fuss over paper it's not a very big deal to me.I like a simple Bemis Jason sketch paper and if I'm just doing gesture drawings or scribbling I don't mind newsprint.I tinted the "Masque of the Red Death" drawing using Paintshop Pro which gives it a nice effect, I think.

When I was a child, drawing came as naturally as breathing.Since I've "learned" to draw though I've found that I prefer to work from either photo references or life.Working from photos is somewhat easier in that you have all that you need at your convenience but it doesn't give the same effect as drawing from life.

Although it's more difficult, I prefer drawing from life. With photos your challenge is to distill what the camera captured and expand on it.When drawing from life you have much more control over the work as you can change either the model or your perspective on the model to get precisely the effect you want.Although a photograph can capture a lot of the visually of your subject it can't capture it all and it can't capture those things which don't reflect light.
